About The Getting2Tri Foundation

G2T’s Mission, Core Values and History:

The Getting2Tri Foundation’s (G2T)  core value is that individuals with a disability deserve the inspiration, support and opportunity to participate in athletic endeavors that promote healthy, active lifestyles. Our mission is to provide training, services, and programs through the sports of swimming, cycling, and running to align physically-challenged individuals, also called ParaTriathletes, with their athletic pursuits, create communities for knowledge sharing, and reduce the perceived barriers between people.

Formed in 2006, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. and with two active chapters in Atlanta and the Carolinas, G2T is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that provides coaching, training and mentoring to ParaTriathletes in the sports of swimming, running, cycling and triathlon. Specifically, the organization addresses the needs of individuals with limb loss, paralysis, muscular or neurological disorders and creates a unique community of support.  Since its inception, G2T has trained athletes from single sport members entering their first race as part of a relay team, to seasoned ParaTriathletes competing in Kona at the Ironman World Championships. The backgrounds of the athletes are just as varied as their goals, from wounded veterans to people with limb loss due to disease. G2T’s cornerstone event remains its annual National ParaTriathlete Training Camp, held in Atlanta in March.  Since 2008, more than 50 ParaTriathletes from all over the world, have attended the camp.  The camp is staffed with former Paralympics medalists and healthcare professionals, and includes more than 200 volunteers from across the country.  While the camp provides the tips and tools for the season ahead, the key component of G2T’s mission is the integration of ParaTriathletes into their local communities once they depart the March event.  G2T has been successful in forming mentoring/coaching relationships for ParaTriathletes in their home communities since 2006.  G2T’s service capabilities and capacity have steadily increased each year. In 2008, G2T provided more than 12,000 hours of coaching and training to its field of athletes who competed in more than 100 races during the triathlete season. For each ParaTriathlete, G2T’s focus is the same: to get him or her onto the playing field, at whatever level is their personal best.
